Japanese hardcore punk, also generally known as Japcore, refers to the fast-paced Japanese punk/hardcore genre. The original intent of Japanese hardcore was to protest the social and economic changes sweeping Japan in the 1980s. The Japanese band "SS" is regarded as starting hardcore in 1977 [1], which influenced bands such as G.I.S.M. and The Stalin. Occasionally, Japanese hardcore musicians include elements of heavy metal music, thrash metal, anarcho-punk, grindcore, horrorpunk, and d-beat in their songs. There was also a movement in the early 1990s of Japanese skinhead bands, many of which were known as SSS Skins. Many of the bands were introduced to the United States by the Steve Priest Fan Club which was later known as Vulture Rock Records. These bands later went on to influence much of the underground scene that exist today. [edit] Notable Japanese hardcore bands[edit] ReferencesHoare, James. "Japanese Grindcore."
