Jan Hermansz van Bijlert (Utrecht, 1597 or 1598 – Utrecht, November 1671) was a Dutch portrait painter in the style of Caravaggio. [edit] BiographyJan van Bijlert was the son of a a stained glass worker, and became a student of Abraham Bloemaert. He travelled in France and Italy on a Grand Tour, and in Rome in 1621 he became a member of the painters' circle known as the Bentvueghels, but in 1624 he was back in Utrecht, where he was appointed regent of the Sint-Jobsgasthuis.
