Herbert James Matthews (28 February 1883 – 3 September 1972[citation needed]) was a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was born in Spondon, Derbyshire, England and became a clergyperson by career.

He was first elected to Parliament at the Kootenay East riding in the 1945 general election after an unsuccessful attempt there in 1940. He was defeated in the 1949 election by James Allen Byrne of the Liberal party.
