Jacek Bąk (Polish pronunciation: [ˈjatsɛk ˈbɔŋk]; born March 24, 1973 in Lublin), is a Polish footballer who plays as a defender for Austria Wien in Austria. He has made 96 appearances for the Polish national football team.

[edit] Club career

He made his footballing debut with Motor Lublin aged just 16, before moving to Lech Poznań two years later.

In Bąk's first season with Lech Poznań, he won the Polish championship title, before catching the eye of the Polish coach, who gave him his first international cap against Cyprus. Bąk was transferred to Olympique Lyon in 1995.

He also played in France for RC Lens (January 2002–2005), where he bounced back, before moving to the Qatari league for Al-Rayyan club . In 2007, he switched back to Europe and signed with Austria Wien.

Bąk represented his nation in the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan, and the 2006 edition in Germany.

In late 2006, Bąk claimed he was offered money to affect the outcome of the Euro 2008 qualifying fixture between Belgium and Poland in Belgium's favour.[citation needed] On July 14, 2008, following the end of Euro 2008, he announced that he was retiring from International football.
