International Union of Food Science and Technology

The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) (pronounced "eye-you-fost") is an international non-governmental organization established in 1962 to devote the advancement of food science and technology. Its has as its members national food science and technology institutes and societies. Initially called the International Congress of Food Science and Technology, it would become known as IUFoST after the 1970 meeting in Washington, DC. It is a full member of the International Council for Science (ICSU).

• Every two years, it hosts a World Congress of Food Science and Technology. The next world congress is in Cape Town, South Africa in August 2010. The most recent congress was in Shanghai, China in October 2008. With over 1000 papers presented with delegates from 78 countries.
• It is cosponsor of regional and national conferences, short courses, and workshops. This has included over 80 symposia with subsequent publications afterwards.
• Liaison with the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization on international food science and technology issues.
• Food Security, Food Safety, Food Science and Technology Education Global Leadership roles

The current president of IUFoST is Geoffery Campbell-Platt of Great Britain. Its president-elect is Luis Fernandez of Argentina and Belgium while its immediate past president is David R. Lineback of the United States.

Membership in the International Union of Food Science and Technology is open to all nations on the basis of one representative body from each nation or defined territory. IUFoST represents more than 200,000 food scientists and technologists worldwide through its Adhering Bodies. This also includes regional groups in Southern Africa, Europe, Asia and South America.
