Indian Institute of Technology Indore (Hindi: भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, इंदौर ), located in Madhya Pradesh, known as IIT Indore or IITI, is an autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institute of higher education established by the Government of India in 2009.[1]

The Indian Institute of Technology Indore, is one of the IIT, along with seven new IITs proposed by the MHRD, Government of India.

The institution has started functioning from 2009-10 in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University under mentorship of IIT Bombay.

Arjun Singh, the HRD minister of India laid the foundation of the college on 17 February 2009 at Simrol, a location about 25 km from the city of Indore.

The institute campus will be spread over 510 acre of land.

[edit] Proposal by MHRD, Government of India

In keeping with India’s vision to become a world leader in science and Technology & to usher in a new revolution, resulting in an unprecedented economic growth, Government of India reassessed the need of technical manpower and decided to set up eight new IITs. Six of these started functioning back from the academic year 2008-09. These were established at Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Rajasthan, Ropar, Patna and Bhubaneswar. The IIT Indore and IIT Himachal had now been started functioning from July 2009. [2]

IIT Bombay will be handling up all mentorship & checkpoints to implement better working strategies. To coordinate various activities in connection with the establishment of new IIT at Indore, Prof Devang Khakhar, Director of IIT Bombay, Mentor Director of IIT Indore. has set up a Cell comprising Convener and several senior Faculty of IIT Bombay.IIT Indore will shift to its permanent campus in 2010.

Undergraduate Undergraduate courses in engineering, traditionally a 4 year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)

In its first year, i.e. academic year 2009-2010, three programmes were offered.

  • Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering
  • Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Eng

Admission to these programmes is through the JEE and students are admitted after completing 10+2 schooling. Later on, more academic and research programs will be offered as in other IITs.
