Ian Henderson (born 23 April 1983 in Torquay, England) is an Scottish professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the New Zealand Warriors in the National Rugby League. He primarily plays at hooker. Two of Henderson's brothers are also rugby league players, Andrew Henderson and Kevin.
[edit] Early YearsHenderson was born in England but the family moved to the Central Coast of New South Wales of Australia and Ian attended Terrigal High School. He made his first grade debut for the Sydney Roosters against the Parramatta Eels in Round 1 of the 2003 NRL season. After two years at the Roosters he moved to Parramatta however did not achieve more game time and left half way through the 2005 season. [edit] EnglandHenderson signed with the Bradford Bulls in 2005, where he made a massive impact in helping Bradford win the Super League Grand Final. However with the arrival of Terry Newton, Henderson has found it hard to gain selection into the Bulls run on Team.[citation needed] [edit] ControvesyWhile a New Zealand Warrior player, Henderson said Castleford, West Yorkshire was the worst place he had lived. He said of the former coal mining town that residents have rotten teeth, spend too much time drinking and need a bath.[1] [edit] WarriorsOn 23 June 2007, the New Zealand Warriors announced they had signed Henderson for two years.[2] [3] Henderson made his debut for the Warriors in Round 1, 2008, playing against the Melbourne Storm. In May 2009 the Warriors announced they had re-signed him until the end of the 2011 season.[4] [edit] ScotlandThe Hendersons are a Scottish family and all three brothers play for Scotland at international level.[5][6][7] All three featured in the Scotland squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[8].
