Promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG)
Date established 01998-03-01 March 1, 1998

The IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Championship (Campeonato Intercontinental Welter IWRG in Spanish) is an inactive professional wrestling championship promoted by the Mexican wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) since 1998.[1] The official definition of the Welterweight weight class in Mexico is between 70 kg (150 lb) and 78 kg (170 lb), but the weight limits are not always strictly adhered to.[Note 1][2] Because Lucha Libre puts more emphasis on the lower weightclasses, this division is considered more important than the normally more prestigious heavyweight division of the promotion.[3] Being a professional wrestling championship, it is not won legitimately: it is instead won via a scripted ending to a match or awarded to a wrestler because of a storyline.

The first Welterweight champion was Dr. Cerebro, winning the title on March 1, 1998 in a tournament final against Shiima Nobunaga.[1] Fuerza Guerrera is the current champion, having defeated Black Terry in Naucalpan, México on November 16, 2008. Guerrera is the 24th overall champion and he is a two time champion, also being the 22nd overall champion.[4] 14 individuals have held the Champions with Cerebro Negro being the person with most title reigns, fives. Cerebro Negro is also the individual to have the shortest reign, seven days while Dr. Cerebro has had the longest individual reign at 788 days.
