Main article: ISO 3166-2 ISO 3166-2:AR is the entry in ISO 3166-2, part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which defines codes for the names of the principal subdivisions of Argentina (whose ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code is AR). Currently 1 federal district and 23 provinces are assigned codes. Each code starts with AR-, followed by a letter, which was originally used in the vehicle registration plates of Argentina (the letters I and O are not used since they could be mistaken as 1 and 0 respectively and were left out of license plates), and is currently used in the postal codes of Argentina. [edit] Current codesCodes and subdivision names are listed as in the official standard published by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/MA).
