"Hush" is a song written by Joe South for Billy Joe Royal. It was a minor hit in 1967, peaking at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song is better known for the version by British hard rock band Deep Purple on their debut album Shades of Deep Purple. It was their first hit in 1968, peaking at number 4 in the United States and number 2 in Canada. They re-recorded the song in 1988 to celebrate their 20-year anniversary. The newer version can be found on the album Nobody's Perfect. The 1988 version reached number 62 on the UK singles chart and number 44 on the Album Rock Tracks chart in the US.

On CD re-issues of Shades of Deep Purple, a live U.S. televised version was included as a bonus track. Other live versions can be found on the live albums Inglewood - Live in California, the only Deep Purple live album with Rod Evans and Nick Simper, and Concerto for Group and Orchestra, with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover.

In 1992 the Swiss rock Band [Gotthard] covered the song on their debut album of the same name.

Kula Shaker, a British psychedelic rock band released "Hush" as a single in 1997 and it reached number 2 on the UK singles chart and number 19 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the US, where it was included on the I Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack album.
