This article is about fictional characters featured in the game show Hugo and the Hugo video games. The original set of characters was created by graphical designer Niels Krogh Mortensen. While the main character in the franchise is Hugo the troll, some games (in particular the multiplayer games Smakkaball and especially Bukkazoom) also feature the other characters as playable. The characters are mostly non-human cartoonish creatures and anthropomorphic animals.

Hugo is a small, harmless-looking troll. He lives in a little hut in Troll Forest, together with his family consisting of his wife Hugolina and their children Rut (a girl), Rat (a boy) and Rit (a toddler). Hugo is actually over 400 year old (trolls' life-span is much longer than this of humans), yet still childish and playful. Hugo is witty, impulsive and daring, very silly yet clever, charming, friendly and adventurous, always in good spirits and always upbeat. He may be sometimes a bit ironic, but he's always ready to come in aid to his friends and the others in need and will do anything to help them and to kick the rear of the hateful witch Scylla and other villains. He has the will and courage to continue to keep trying in his fight against evil, no matter how many obstacles he meets on his way. In the classic games, Hugo wears only green pants with a single suspender over his left shoulder, walking barefoot; sometimes however he was dressed differently, like an Indiana Jones-style outfit for some of his jungle island adventures or an astronaut's suit for his space escapade. Agent Hugo (being a futuristic James Bond parody) is very different, most often clad in a black suit and boots and is very high-tech (as are his new enemies). He has a big tooth in the right side of the mouth, two small horns, a long tail, flocculent hair on his head and long pointy ears. Like the rest of his family, Hugo has light-brown skin and black hair and only four fingers on each hand and three on his feet. He has habit of breaking the fourth wall, frequently communicating with the player directly or even knocking on the screen from the inside.

• Hugolina is the most beautiful troll in the forest and Hugo's sweetheart wife. She is a large-hearted, full of humor, with much energy and a good understanding of things. She's also very tolerant of Hugo, his wacky ideas and his sometimes childish behavior. Hugolina control is a worker and balanced, full of humor. Even when repeatedly kidnapped by Scylla as an ingredient for the witch's beauty treatment, she always had unwavering faith that will be saved by Hugo. Hugolina wears a green dress with white collar and white shoes. She has bright blue eyes, red lips and long hair. She's a little smaller in size than Hugo and her feet are smaller than others of the family.

• Rut is the oldest of the three children, 13 year old in human years, but still very playful. She's as impulsive and brave like her father, curious and adventurous, she likes to explore and learn about nature, foreign countries and life in general (starring in some of Hugo educational games). Rut usually wears a red dress but also other clothes, often in shades of red, and a red ribbon in her hair.

• Rat is the second child of Hugo and Hugolina. A year less than its sister, Rut, he's 12 year old in human scale. Rat is an adventurous boy, always full of energy, admiring Hugo and as brave as him, desiring adventures and always looking for new challenges. He actually saves Hugo in Evil Mirror. Rat wears blue pants with suspenders and a red-blue baseball cap.

Scylla the witch is an human wicked witch and the arch-enemy of Hugo. She is also featured a playable character in some games, but is not featured in the later Agent Hugo games. Scylla aggressive, unpredictable, selfish and can't be trusted. She's obsessed with beauty and youth and even as she's actually over 230 year old, she keeps her good looks using sorcery. The witch hates all things and beings that are happy and cheerful and despises children and trolls - but most of all she hates Hugo for foiling her various evil plots. She lives in a variety of castles and in skull-shaped caves. Her magic powers enable her to fly riding a broom, use a crystal ball to track Hugo's movements, cast harmful spells, and attack directly by shooting lightning bolts from her fingers, but she usually also uses a variety of traps. In many of the games the villainess is aided by her servant Don Croco and/or other minions like the Vikings. Scylla usually appears as an attractive but mean-looking woman (through sometimes she can be briefly seen in her hag form) with long black hair, red lips, green (sometimes blue) eyes and black nails, almost always wearing a dark-blue or black dress (oddly for a children-oriented material, her nipples are sometimes clearly seen-through its fabric) with a cape and high-heeled shoes. She's sometimes teasing Hugo and the player (also breaking the fourth wall) and likes to laugh evilly. In her own Hexana spin-off TV show on kabel eins, she was personified by the actress Julia Haacke.

Note: Scylla is also known as Afskylia in the Danish original version, Hexana in the German-speaking countries and the rest of Scandinavia, Maldiva in Portugal, Maldícia in Brazil, Grizzelda in Israel, Sila in Turkey and Mordana in Croatia (sometimes also as Sculla).

• Don Croco, a major enemy of Hugo in many games and a playable character in a few, was a feared tyrant of the jungle island until he met Scylla and fell in unrequited love with her. Since then, he became the loyal servant of the witch, ready to do her every bidding, even as he's often treated very harshly. Don Croco's a big, fat humanoid crocodile with three claws on each arm and some brown hair on top of his head. He's wearing a monocle on his left eye and a belt to carry a sabre; he has sharp teeth and often sports a sly smile. Don Croco's soldiers, called El Kroko, are wearing sombrero hats and are also armed with swords.

• Fernando is the colorful tucan and a good friend of Hugo who lives on the jungle island. Friendly and open, he's helping Hugo primarily by monitoring the whole island from above. Fernando, who's about the same age as Hugo, is a little lower than Jean Paul and Hugo. Feathers are a dark, but white on the abdomen and yellow and blue its heard and his legs are blue.

• Jean Paul is a wacky, funny and wild chimpanzee that Hugo met on the jungle island. They helped each other in the fight against Scylla and have since remained friends. Jean Paul doesn't know the human people, but that does not stand in the way of friendship with Hugo. He's wearing a red opened shirt and has four fingers on his hands and feet.

• Santa Claus is a friend of Hugo for a very long time, since each year Scylla tries to disrupt the Christmas imprisoning Santa (in the Winter Games series) yet thanks to Hugo's efforts she always fails.

• The Kikurians are a peaceful tribe of happy creatures living on the jungle island, whose lives are being repeatedly deeply distrubed by Scylla's evil actions.

• Dr. Nogo is the ugly and vile leader of the criminal organization SUSPECTRA with a secret headquarters deep beneath the city of Aquapolis. Dr. Nogo is huge and awful, with a harsh and shrill voice. He is very rich and powerful and has no qualms to get more of it. Recently, Dr. Nogo was humiliated by the rejection of his ex-fiancée, Mrs. Alltobright and now he wants revenge: his evil plan is to kidnap Professor Graffenphennich and use his inventions to destroy the whole city.

• Oddjaw is Dr. Nogo's personal bodyguard. Very muscular and extremely aggressive, he fights against everything and everyone without any remorse, serveing Dr. Nogo with an efficiency and brutality.

• Kizzi Wed is a tall and thin woman based in Chinatown, speaking with a Japanese accent and skilled in marial arts. She is always a bad mood and usually has insidious and creepy plans in mind for SUSPECTRA's enemies.

• Cppuchio Palazzo is Dr. Nogo's Italian gangster from a Sicilian Mafia family, working in Little Italy. With an Italian accent, C. Palazzo is constantly trying to impress and flatter his boss. He also takes any attack against SUSPECTRA very personally and reacts to it with absolute cruelty. He always has a large selection of weapons and never hesitates to use them.

• Grokul is a a big and brutal SUSPECTRA's agent created as the result of a genetic experiment to make a super-villain. He seems to be a super-strong and extremely vicious psychopath, respecting nobody and fearing no one. He is the only one of Dr. Nogo's agents who is not trying to impress his boss and all his feelings were genetically removed. He speaks with a Russian accent and prefers traditional methods of killing to get rid of agent Hugo and RISK colleagues.

• Max Schmertz is a German bomb specialist, speaking in a very sarcastic voice with a German accent. He is very loyal to Dr. Nogo and tries as to work as efficiently as possible in order to ensure that he would become the right hand of Dr. Nogo.
