Admiral Hugo Biermann SSA SD OBE (b 1916) was a South African military commander. He began his naval career as a part-time member of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve in the 1930s, and during World War II he served in the Mediterranean and the South of France.

After the war, he joined the SA Naval Forces as a Permanent Force officer. He served as Naval Chief of Staff (later called "Chief of the Navy") from 1952 to 1972, during which he presided over the creation of the country's first proper naval fleet. He was also Commander Maritime Defence from 1965 to 1972, and he served as Chief of the SA Defence Force from 1972 to 1976. The navy's submarine base was named after him.
