Hubert Chesshyre in the procession to the annual service of the Order of the Garter

David Hubert Boothby Chesshyre, CVO (* 22 June 1940) is Clarenceux King of Arms. Both of his parents are of ancient families, though precisely what this means is a mystery to most people, since no family can be appreciably more ancient than another, each new person being the product of two parents in perpetual succession for hundreds of thousands of years. His paternal line had no authorised coat of arms until he himself procured a grant of arms in 1970. His paternal grandfather's surname was Isacke, not Chesshyre (Burke's Peerage 107th edn vol 1 p 430). He was educated at The King's School, Canterbury, at Trinity College, Cambridge (Modern Languages BA - taking a 2.2 in all three parts of his Tripos, MA - not a postgraduate qualification but something Cambridge graduates pick up automatically some while after graduation), and at Christ Church, Oxford (Diploma in Education). He is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London as well as a fellow of the Heraldry Society. Chesshyre served as a Green Staff Officer at the investiture of Charles, Prince of Wales in 1969. He joined the College of Arms as Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1971 at which time he also joined the staff of Sir Anthony Wagner.
