Hotaru Akane (紅音ほたる, Akane Hotaru^?) aka Anna Akizuki (秋月 杏奈, Akizuki Anna^?) is a popular and award-winning Japanese model and AV idol. She is active in many media formats in Japan including a role in a mainstream theatrical film, and is a popular blogger.^[2] Her adeptness at female ejaculation has earned Akane the title, "Shiofuki Queen".^[3] She retired from AV work in 2008.

Hotaru Akane was born in Osaka on 25 October 1983.^[4] At the time that she joined the AV industry, she was studying as a nursing student.^[5] Akane's early appearances were under the stage name Anna Akizuki, and she debuted in AV using this name in an ensemble performance in the February 2004 adult video (AV), Faithful Dog 'Saseko',^[6] which won the award for Best AV Title at the 5th Takeshi Kitano Awards.^[7] Not originally a solo actress, Akane's attractiveness led to her first starring video, G Guy! in July 2004.^[8] Akane's September 2004 video Super Idols, rapidly achieved "legendary" status, and was re-released on DVD in November as the first entry in the Super Idols series.^[9][10]

The cosplay-themed Uniform Collection / Anna Syugetsu had Akane donning a variety of school uniforms, a popular form of garment fetishism in AVs.^[11] Another cosplay video, Sister Maid from December 2004, starred the prominent AV actress, Shuri Himesaki. Akane played the role of Himesaki's sister, and together they gave erotic performances in maid costumes.^[12] In spite of her very prolific AV career, Akane says that she finds the time and energy to masturbate every day, and owns ten adult toys.^[13]

In 2005, Weekly Playboy recognized Akane's career by awarding her the "Newcomer of the Year" title in their "AV Academy Awards".^[14] She also won a Best Actress Award for Excellence at the 2006 SOD Awards.^[15] Kuki's January 2006 release, Cutie Clips gave the viewer the experience of having a "virtual love story" with several top AV actresses. Akane's segment is a "virtual date" at the beach.^[16] In Temptation; 7 Ultimate Queens Attack Me!!, Akane joined with Nana Natsume and five other the top AV idols of 2006 in competition for the honor of serving as top hostess at "the most luxurious and the most lecherous club in the world."^[17]

For her ability to perform shiofuki or female ejaculation, Akane became known as the "Shiofuki Queen" of Japanese adult videos.^[3] Videos focusing on this talent include such titles as Hotaru Akane - Shiofuki Climax and Hotaru Akane - Paipan Mega Shiofuki Fuck.^[18][19] Akane says that she prepares for her shiofuki demonstrations by drinking an entire bottle of water before performing in these scenes.^[20] In the June 2006 video, Hotaru Akane and Ayano Murasaki: Splash Heaven, Akane competed with top jukujo or "mature" actress, Ayano Murasaki in this area of specialty. In a contest to decide, "Who is the best squirter in the AV industry," the two actresses reportedly, "splash love juice like a fountain!!"^[21] Love Splashing, released the following month, was a shiofuki-themed omnibus collection grouping Akane with such notable practitioners of the technique as Ai Kurosawa.^[22] In January 2007, Akane was chosen to be the actress in the inaugural entry of the new Ultimate Ecstasy series on the Real Works label.^[23]

In September 2006, Akane appeared in her first "uncensored" video, without the mosaic pixellation which is used to disguise the genitals in most Japanese porn films. She has subsequently made four more original uncensored videos, all released by Sky High Entertainment.^[24]

Akane takes pride in her career as an AV idol,^[25] and, her January 2007 video, Gals' Battle Royal ～Hotaru Kurenai X Chihiro Shina～, makes a theme of that professionalism. The video has two accomplished AV performers trying to outdo each other in a competition of sexual acts. Practices employed in the contest include fellatio, paizuri and urination.^[26] The video was re-released in Blu Ray format in July.^[27] A similar competition-themed video was Versus, Hotaru Akane vs. Satoko Tachibana, which pitted Akane against another top AV idol in a competition over who is the most skilled erotic performer.^[28] Magic Mirror The Two-way Mirror Car; Hot Body In Yokohama follows the exploits of four AV idols, Akane and Hikari Hino among them, cruising the streets of Yokohama picking up amateur men with whom to frolic in a specially-equipped car.^[29] In Hotaru Akane and Misaki Aso Versus 40-Year-Old Virgins, from September 2007, Akane teamed with fellow AV idol, Misaki Aso, to give a group of sexually inexperienced males their first intimate encounters with the opposite sex.^[30] Ienergy's Insurance Salesperson Raped Hard, released the same month, has Akane playing the role of an overbearing top-selling insurance agent. Her success and confidence makes her the envy of her co-workers, who rejoice when she falls into a slump and is fired by the company's boss. Akane then sleeps with the head of a rival insurance company in order to be hired there. When compromising photos of Akane begin to circulate, her old co-workers again take pleasure in her humiliation.^[31]

After a long and extremely prolific career, Akane released her retirement video Final Gusher - Akane Hotaru's Retirement Work with Cross in October 2008^[32] but her blog is still open and she continues a chronicle of her busy event schedule.

Unlike many other adult video actresses who carefully guard their private lives, Akane has kept a fairly high public profile. In addition to her AV appearances, Akane has become known as a popular blogger. Her frank blog, "Hotaru's Life," quickly achieved a high blog-ranking, which it has continuously maintained.^[2] In another sign of Akane's widespread media recognition, she played a role in director Toru Ichikawa's mainstream theatrical film, 赤龍の女 (Sekiryû no onna^?) (2006).^[33][2] As a high-profile celebrity in the sex industry, Akane was invited to speak at a "World AIDS Day" event in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward on 1 December 2007.^[34]

In March 2008, Akane made her debut as a singer in a celebrity compilation CD titled Mero Raba (Melodic Lover) targeted at a female audience. She provided the lyrics for the song she sings: Ai no Kuni. Other contributors to the CD include fashion models and popular singer TSUKASA, Akane is the only AV actress included.^[35]
