The Oregon High Desert is a region of the U.S. state of Oregon located in the central and eastern parts of the state. The southern region is part of the Great Basin. The somewhat less arid northern region is part of the Columbia Plateau and supports some farming.
The term desert is somewhat relative. Not all of eastern Oregon is classified as true desert; according to some of the local residents of the region, only those areas that receive less than 10 inches of rain qualify. However, this still encompasses a large portion of southeastern Oregon.
