Health Care for America NOW! (HCAN) is a political campaign of organizations promote health care reform in the United States, along the lines of the Obama program. It is a 501(c)4 issues advocacy organization, founded in 2008 as a project of the Tides Center.[1] HCAN seeks legislation to provide every American universal healthcare at a cost (for premiums and copayments) scaled to the participant's income. It does not seek abolition of private for-profit health insurance, but the establishment of a federal government health insurance scheme to compete against private insurance companies. HCAN claimed (in June 2009) support of 190 Congressional Democrats, President of the United States Barack Obama, and Vice President Joseph Biden. Republicans and some Democrats withheld their support.[citation needed] Edie Falco is HCAN's spokesperson.[2] [edit] See also[edit] References
