Hayesfield Girls' School is an all-girl secondary school with a co-educational sixth form located in Bath, England.

[edit] History

Hayesfield School was created partly as a result of a merger of two other boys schools that occurred in 1970, it was formed in 1973 at the locations of the old City of Bath Technical School for boys, and the City of Bath Girls Grammar School buildings when the City of Bath reorganised secondary education by merging grammar schools and secondary modern schools to form comprehensive schools.

West Twerton Secondary Modern School, (whose old school building is no longer used as an educational facility) and City of Bath Girl's Grammar School (Which is now the upper school facility) were merged to form Hayesfield School. The school was renamed Hayesfield School Technology College when it obtained Technology College status in 1979, but renamed once again in 2008 becoming Hayesfield Girls' School.

[edit] Academics

The school has specialist Technology College and Foundation school status. The school has 1,200 pupils and operates on two major sites less than half a mile apart. The Lower School (years 7 to 9) is situated at Brougham Hayes, Lower Oldfield Park, while the Upper School is resides in Upper Oldfield Park. Hayesfield's coeducational sixth form operates in a separate large house oppposite the Upper School.

Many out of hours clubs are provided for the girls to broaden the curriculum, these include Hayesfield's choir HOST, a wind band and a big band. Sporting opportunities are numerous with cricket, rounders, netball, tennis being several examples. Activities also include such miscellaneous subjects such as drama, astronomy, engineering and their own student newspaper production.

From recent examinations at fifth and sixth form level, Hayesfield students have performed with mediocrity; with sixty-percent meeting the national par of five grades C at GCSE level including English Language and Mathematics [2]

According to the BBC Schools League Table, Hayesfield School has a 1.3% rate of unauthorized absence, above the local average of 0.9%. [3] This was reflected in the recent Section 5 Inspection Report made by Ofsted in late 2008, which gave a "Satisfactory" rating to the "Attendance of Learners" (Second lowest of a possible four).

[edit] Sixth Form

Hayesfield sports a co-educational sixth form, situated across the road from the 'upper school' in a house.

The sixth form house has about 6 floors, with music technology on the top floor.
