The Havelock City Project, well known locally for its Asia Pacific Property Awards, is one of the largest and most expensive multi-purpose real-estate development project in the world, being constructed in the Havelock Town region of Sri Lanka. The project will consist of nine individual towers:

Tower 1 - 22 floors (also called Park Tower, part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 2 - 22 floors (also called Elibank Tower, part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 3 - 22 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 4 - 22 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 5 - 27 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 6 - 27 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 7 - 29 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 8 - 29 floors (part of the "Residential Component")
Tower 9 - ?? floors (also called as the "Commercial Component")

Towers 1 to 8 is known as the Residential Component, and Tower-9 is known as the Commercial Component. The Residential Component is divided into four phases, each consisting of the construction of two identical twin towers. As of 2005, the current phase, consisting of the first two towers is now under construction. This phase, according to the official website, is scheduled to complete and open to public in mid 2009, while the entire project is scheduled to be completed by the year 2011.

The leading architects and designers of the project are the East China Architecture Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd (also abbreviated as ECADI), and The Design Group Five International (Pvt) Ltd of Sri Lanka. Havelock City is being developed and managed by Mireka Capital Land (pvt) Ltd, which is a joint venture between Overseas Reality (Ceylon) PLC (also known as ORCPLC), and BoC, which is the largest bank in Sri Lanka. The board of directors, of Mireka Capital Land (pvt) Ltd, are as follows:

Mr. S. P. Tao is also the chairman of Shing Kwan Group of Singapore, which is the majority shareholder of ORCPLC. ORCPLC currently holds 60% of shares in the project, while BoC owns the remaining 40%.

Havelock City is being constructed on a massive 19-acre (76,890 m²) land, which was once the permises of the Wellawatta Spinning & Weaving Mills. Now, after the demolition of the weaving company, this massive bare land is tagged as the largest single-site clearing in the entire city of Colombo. Havelock is easily known as one of the largest and residential projects in Asia Pacific due to its immense size, it will also own one of the largest underground carparks in the Asian continent; about the size of three rugger fields.

The Residential Component would consists 1,080 apartments and the Commercial Component would consist 200 serviced apartments and 300 business-class hotels. The projects' slogan is "Come home to the city" and "City within a City", due to the facts that the following features make the project look like an "individual city":

A large shopping mall
A hypermarket
A multiplex cinema
And shops, cafés, restaurants, etc.

The following will be constructed on landscaped gardens which will be located on the rooftop of the above listed components (which is grouped as the Mall):

A swimming pool
Gymnasium and Health Club
Two tennis courts
Dining areas

Havelock City would consist additional recreational facilities such as:

Clubhouses and barbecue-pits
Free-form swimming pools
Playground
Cycling tracks
36,422 m² (9 acres) rainforest garden with cascading pools, lakes and etc.
Boulder gardens with waterfalls

The residential component is being constructed like an eight-piece numerical "8", which is designed for perfect sunlight and cross-ventilation across the project. Havelock City is located near the outskirts of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Just next to the Kirulapana Canal, which leads to the shoreline at about a 1.12 km (0.70 mi) distance.

[edit] Havelock City Bridge

The Havelock City Bridge is a 36 m (118 ft) beam bridge which connects the residencial project, which is located Southeast of the bridge, and Skelton Road, which is located Northwest of the bridge. The early stages of construction have begun in the first few weeks of October 2008. As of late May 2009, the bridge is nearing its final stages of completion. The bridge is being constructed by the Sri Lankan engineering firm International Construction Consortium at an additional cost of US$1.27 million.
