[edit] Club career

A product of Auxerre's youth system, Yebda could not, however, manage to appear once for its first team, being loaned to Ligue 2's Stade Lavallois in between.[1]

In January 2007, he was definitely released and moved to Le Mans, making his Ligue 1 debut on 17 February 2007, in a 2–0 loss at Sochaux: brought on in the 70th minute, Yebda scored an own goal 10 minutes later, in his only appearance of the 2006–07 season.

In 2007–08, Yebda appeared regularly for Le Mans, helping the team achieve a comfortable ninth place in the league. On 29 May 2008, he signed a four-year contract with Benfica, on a free transfer.[2] A constant midfield fixture with Benfica, he was voted the Portuguese Liga's "Player of the Month" in September. In February 2009, Yebda netted his first league goal, in a 1–1 draw at F.C. Porto.[3]

During the 2009 off-season, Yebda was linked with a £3 million move to Everton.[4] Yebda made a move to Premier League side Portsmouth on 1 September 2009 on a season-long loan for the 2009–10 season.[5] He scored his first goal for Portsmouth on 3 October 2009 against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molyneux, the winner in Portsmouth's first victory of the season.[6]

[edit] International career

Yebda represented France at youth levels, being part of the squad at the victorious 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

However, as a senior, he switched allegiances to Algeria, He is set to be called up in October for a match against Rwanda to sit in for the suspended Yazid Mansouri.

[edit] Personal

Although born in France, Yebda is originally from the village of Taourirt Adène in the Tizi Ouzou Province in the Kabylie region of Algeria.[7] He understands both Kabyle and Arabic but does not speak either language fluently.[8]
