[edit] Features

Halite is in an early stage of development[1] supporting basic features:

  • Multiple downloads
  • Displays detailed information for the selected torrent
  • Transfer rate and connection limits both global and per-torrent[1]
  • Minimize to tray with transfer rate summary[1]
  • Association with ".torrent" files[3]
  • Option to limit the number of instances to one[3]
  • Estimated time remaining indicator[3]
  • Tabbed interface[3]
  • Login support where tracker requires it[1]
  • Trackerless torrents (using the Mainline Kademlia DHT protocol)[1]
  • IP filtering with eMule ipfilter.dat import[1]
  • Protocol encryption support[1]
  • Ability to modify trackers[1]
  • UPnP and NAT-PMP support[1]
  • Ability to create torrent files

[edit] Development

Halite is in active development and is gaining some popularity as one of the various alternative, free, resource friendly BitTorrent clients available for Windows[2].

Planned features for the future include both full proxy support[1] and the option to ban peers.

[edit] Requirements

Halite requires Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista or Server 2008[3]. Older versions of Windows aren't supported because Halite is written using Unicode[4], and Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me don't have native Unicode support[5].

Halite uses WTL toolkit, so it can only be run on Windows operating systems. The Halite developer considers it is unlikely that Halite will support other operating systems.[6]
