Gurban Osman Gurbanov (Azerbaijani: Qurban Osman oğlu Qurbanov; Russian: Гурбан Осман оглы Гурбанов; born April 13, 1972, Zagatala) is retired football striker from Azerbaijan.
[edit] Playing careerHe started his career in Dashgyn, and has since played for Kur-Nur, Mertskhali, PFK Turan Tovuz, PFC Neftchi, Dinamo Stavropol, Baltika Kaliningrad, and Fakel Voronezh. The last club he played for was FC Inter Baku. In the 1996-97 season, Gurbanov was the leading scorer in the Azerbaijan Premier League for Neftchi with 25 goals.[1] The striker was named Azerbaijan's Player of the Year once, in 2003.[2] [edit] InternationalHe debuted for the national team in their very first match on September 17, 1992, and as of January 2006 he has scored 14 goals in 65 international matches, which is the national team goalscoring record.[3] [edit] Managerial careerAfter he had ended his football player's career, he became sport director of the club Inter. However, in summer 2006 he was appointed head coach of PFC Neftchi Baku. Since the beginning of the season 2008/08 he has appointed as a head coach of FK Karabakh to replace Rasim Kara.
