It is the longest running competition in South Korea. Even though it is no longer the largest tournament in terms of prize money, the tradition and the significant prestige of title (Guksu is literally the hand of the nation or the best player of the country) means that many people considers it the most precious title. makes it often the most prized title in eyes of many people. The sponsor is Tong-a Il-po (Far East Daily News). The white Ho-Sun (Komi, in Japanese) is 6.5 points, which is a compensation given to the white-stone player for starting after black-stone player. The preliminaries get 3 hours thinking time, the knockout league gets 4 hours of thinking time, and the final title match gets 5 hours of thinking time.
