The Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance has been awarded since 1980. From 1980 to 1993 the award was known as the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male.

In 1988, 1992, 1994, and 2005 through 2009 this award was combined with the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance into the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo.

Years reflect the year in which the Grammy Awards were handed out, for music released in the previous year.

As of 2002, American rock musician Lenny Kravitz holds the record for the most wins in this category, with a total of four consecutive wins from 1999-2002.
