The Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance has been awarded since 1980. From 1980 to 1993 the award was known as the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female.

In 1988, 1992, 1994, and 2005 through 2009 this award was combined with the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance into the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo.

Years reflect the year in which the Grammy Awards were handed out, for music released in the previous year.

The category itself is largely dominated by the same performers, overall, with Pat Benatar, Tina Turner and Sheryl Crow each winning 4 awards. Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge also have each won 2 awards. Meaning of the 25 awards ever presented, 16 (or roughly more than three fifths) have been dominated by only five artists.
