Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, (earlier called Government Model High School) is a school located in Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. The school is affiliated to the Kerala State Board of Education.
[edit] HistoryThe history of the school goes back to 1885,when a normal school was started in Thiruvananthapuram by the Govt.of Travancore for the training of male teachers.It was situated in the compound where St.Joseph's Higher Secondary school is situated at present.In 1903 it was transplanted to Thycaud.The magnificent main building of the school, an example of European architecture, was built in 1910 during the reign of Maharaja Sree Moolam Thirunal Ramavarma. The institution flourished under the leadership of the first Headmaster Dr.C F Clarke. He served in office for three years. He lived inside the school campus, the bungalow in which he stayed still remains as Clarkes's Bungalow. The school wasthe city's first English, Malayalam, Tamil medium school. [edit] The school todayThe school has over 4500 students from classes from one to twelve (popularly known as +2) who are being educated by a teaching staff of over 150. The school has multiple buildings to house the students - fFrom the imperialistic main building, to the newly created modern PTA Building. The school seats around 500 students every year for the SSLC and Higher Secondary Exams. Model School comes under 2 Kerala battalion of NCC. [edit] Higher Secondary SchoolWhen the Kerala State Board of Education decided to move the 2 year intermediate course, between High School and University from colleges to schools in the year 1998, Model School was also part of the program.
