Goodnight Burbank is a character-driven comedy video podcast that goes behind the scenes of a fake Burbank, CA 11:00PM newscast. All the news used is 100% real. The show throws to real news stories and fictitious correspondents but remains with the anchors, talking in what - to them - are "off-camera" moments. It combines political and social commentary alongside mini story arcs involving the characters, their love lives and their careers.

The show was originally created (and written) by Hayden Black in March 2006 and initially cast with members of an Upright Citizen's Brigade improv class he was taking. The show quickly took a life of its own, and by 2006's end had become one of the Top 25 podcasts in the world[citation needed]. Black also plays the role of egotistical British co-anchor Gordon Winston-Smythe. His original co-anchor, Jamie Denbo, left when she landed a role on the Fox sitcom "Happy Hour". She was recast with Shulie Cowen (Reno 911) beginning with Episode 13.

The cast is now made up of comedic performers from Upright Citizen's Brigade, The Second City and Improv Olympic. Cast members have appeared on the Office (which is wry in the sense that the show is frequently compared to The Office meets the Daily Show), The Young & The Restless, David Letterman, Weeds, The West Wing, and French Maid TV (another video podcast). Rich Fulcher, co-star of the UK's "Mighty Boosh" and "Snuff Box" and Carolyn Lawrence, a successful voice-over artist who stars in Moral Orel and as Sandy Cheeks in Spongebob Squarepants joined the cast in Nov '06. David Lawrence (no relation) who also joined at the same time, has his own nationally syndicated radio talk show.

It has received glowing reviews from USA Today who called it "better than 99% of the stuff on TV" and BBC News who said it was a "brilliant satire that wouldn't look out of place on a network" - as well as G4, the San Francisco Chronicle and various websites. In 2006, it won vloggie for Best Web News Series. In 2007, it was awarded an Official Honoree by the Webbys. GNB was the first series to be given its own comedy channel on iFilm (and it now has one on Veoh.com). It's also on Blip.tv, YouTube, etc etc.

They're now doing a spin-off series (or companion series) called "Goodnight Burbank: Breaking News" starring Carly Craig and Monica Young as the GNB reporter and her roommate and rival, the NBC reporter. They're both sent to the same places to report on the same news and interact between their packages.

The show itself has been featured all over the place, tv, newspapers, magazines. It was recently covered on Al Jazeera's Listening Post show!!!

It was named one of iTunes best podcasts of 2006, in both People's Choice and Staff Picks categories. [1][citation needed] Fans can sign up to hear their name mentioned as one of the never-seen correspondents, on the GNB mailing list, found on the main website http://www.goodnightburbank.com. It is produced by Black's LA-based production company, Evil Global Corp.

After going on a year-long hiatus, the series returned with 20 new episodes under the spin-off banner "Goodnight Burbank: Hollywood Report". The series was produced for babelgum.com and almost all the original cast returned.
