Neuron: Golgi II Cell
NeuroLex ID nifext_58

Golgi II or Golgi type II neuron is a nerve cell having with a short axon or no axon which sends out branches in the gray matter of the central nervous system.[1] These golgi type II neurons are also called association neurons and have axonal process which have local processes. Their interactions are within a single nucleus or neuropil layer. The dendrites and axon terminals can both receive and transmit information via endocytosis and exocytosis respectively. Santiago Ramón y Cajal postulated that higher developed animals had more Golgi type II cells in comparison to Golgi type I neurons.[2] Examples are granule cells and stellate cells.[2]
