UK Golden Virginia, 25 g with warning

Golden Virginia is a rolling tobacco manufactured in Nottingham, England by Imperial Tobacco and sold throughout Europe. It is a blend of fine-cut Virginia, burley and oriental tobaccos.

It is sold in 12.5 g, 14 g, 25 g, 40 g, 50 g and 75 g pouches. The pouches contain a zip lock seal to keep the tobacco fresh along with a sticky tab. 30 g pouches are available in New Zealand and 25 g and 40 g in Australia.^{[citation needed]}

In the Greek, Italian, Slovenian and Portuguese markets, the variations "Golden Virginia Yellow" blend and the aromatic "Golden Virginia Aroma" blend may be found.^{[citation needed]}

According to the Imperial Tobacco website^[1], Golden Virginia is the number one hand rolling tobacco in the UK. It is sold in over 35 markets, predominantly in Western Europe, with its key markets being Belgium, UK, Spain and Luxembourg.

The price of Golden Virginia varies throughout Europe. In England a 12.5 g pouch can cost between £2.90 and £3.45, putting it in the premium price range.^{[citation needed]} In Australia a 25 g pouch varies around $13-$15. While a 40 g pouch $18-$21.^{[citation needed]}

[edit] UK Release of Golden Virginia Yellow

Following an 18-month process of research and development, on 2nd March 2009, Imperial Tobacco launched its new Golden Virginia Yellow (GV Yellow) packs on to the roll-your-own market.

GV Yellow will be available in 12.5 g, 25 g and 50 g packs, RRPs at £2.73, £5.35 and £10.59 respectively. Price marked packs are also available at £2.65 for a 12.5 g pack and £5.25 for a 25 g pack. Already available in Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Spain and the Canary Isalnds, Slovenia and Switzerland, volumes of GV Yellow grew 18% in 2008.

Iain Watkins, UK Trade Communications Manager at Imperial Tobacco described how Golden Virginia Yellow differs from the long-established Golden Virginia Green range: "Golden Virginia Green is made with hand-stripped tobaccos giving it a distinctive quality. New Golden Virginia Yellow is made from a different process, using the finest Virginia tobacco which gives it a smoother taste similar to that of the smoother factory-made cigarette brands."

Roll your own tobacco is the only segment currently stimulating the UK tobacco category, and the 12 months ending October 2008 saw volume sales increase by nearly 12%.,^[2]
