"Glycerine" is the fourth single from British post-grunge band Bush's debut album Sixteen Stone. With the third single "Comedown," Bush reached number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart for two weeks. "Glycerine" also reached number one for two weeks in December. It was also their biggest pop hit, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 on February 24, 1996 and the Hot 100 Airplay on January 27, 1996.
[edit] VideoThe video for "Glycerine" was notable for being shot in a very short time period when the band was on tour in the United States. The video was shot so quickly because the band's visas had expired. In spite of being very simple and unadorned, the video was highly acclaimed and won several awards, including the MTV Video Music Award - Viewer's Choice from the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. [edit] MTV PerformanceThe song is also known for being performed live & solo by Gavin Rossdale, during a heavy storm at the 1996 MTV Spring Break performance stage. Though thunderstorms threatened to cancel the show, Rossdale insisted in performing for a crowd that had waited to see Bush. Footage of the performance was put into video rotation by MTV. [edit] ParodyThe song was also parodied as "Margerine" in The Simpsons episode That 90's Show. This was a song performed by Homer's grunge band Sadgasm, and was dedicated to Marge.
