[edit] Early lifeBorn in Margarita Island, Venezuela to an Italian father and a Venezuelan mother, Gerina grew up in a culturally diverse environment that has very much influenced her musical identity. She was exposed to many contrasting musical styles while becoming fluent in Spanish, Italian and English. Her multi-cultural influences have resulted in Gerina formulating a new musical genre mixing pop and rock with a hint of country and a splash of Latin flavor. When Gerina was nine years old she appeared on “In Search of a Young Star”, the Venezuelan version of Star Search, and remained the champion on the show for five consecutive weeks. Gerina also appeared in a variety of television commercials airing in Venezuela and the US for a number of companies including Colgate, Samba Candy and Cotton Candy Clothing. [edit] Music career[edit] Moving To AmericaWhen Gerina was 16 she left her home and family and moved to the United States to learn English, study the music business and to work on her songwriting skills. After completing her studies at St. Petersburg Junior College, Gerina moved to Miami, FL and attended Miami Dade Community College where she received degrees in International Business Administration and Music Business. After graduation, she began working with such musical greats as Jon Secada, Steve Morales, Marty Cintron, Guy Roache and others. [edit] SongwritingIn 2002, Gerina co-wrote the song "Closer To You" with Steve Morales. Thalía released this song on her 2002 self-titled album and released the Spanish version, "Cerca De Ti" in 2004. "Circa De Ti" went to #1 on the Latin Billboard Charts and Gerina was honored at the 2005 BMI Latin Awards for her songwriting skills. In 2004, Gerina moved to Las Vegas to strengthen her live performance skills. She performed as the lead singer of a band featured at The Bellagio for over two years. Over the course of her stay at The Bellagio, she acquired a cult following of fans. [edit] ReleasesIn July 2006, Gerina released her first album on the Aim High Records label. The album features songs in both English and Spanish and Gerina collaborated with producer Chris DeStefano for several of the songs.
