The following is a list of minor characters that first appeared in the BBC soap opera EastEnders in 2009, by order of first appearance. [edit] Debra Dean
Debra Dean, played by actress Ruth Gemmell, first appeared on 5 January 2009.[2] Debra is the mother of established character Whitney Dean. She left Whitney and her father, Nathan Dean, when Whitney was very young. Debra kept in touch with Nathan and his partner Bianca Jackson so Nathan and Bianca could keep her informed about Whitney. Debra is known to have worn a crucifix, which she gave to Whitney before she left. She also gave Whitney a porcelain doll that was broken by Whitney's sister, Tiffany. Debra was first mentioned in late December 2008 when Whitney decided to get in touch, only to discover Debra hadn't received the letter as Bianca gave her the wrong address. She claimed not to have the right address when Whitney asked for it, wanting to protect her, but Janine Butcher discovered Bianca was lying and stole it from Bianca's address book. She gave it to Whitney. Debra and Whitney met on 5 January 2009 at a café where Debra worked. Whitney tried to discuss when they had lived together but Debra wasn't interested. She showed no interest in Whitney, coldly rejecting her, upsetting Whitney so much that she broke down in tears just after she left the cafe. She went home and told Bianca that she was her mother as Whitney felt visiting her birth mother was the biggest mistake she had made. Whitney did not have any further contact with Debra until 5 June when she arrived unexpectedly. Bianca sent her away but Debra returned a few days later, insisting she wanted to get to know her daughter. Bianca told Ricky that Debra wasn't to be trusted and on Whitney's first birthday, she went on holiday with friends instead of being there for her daughter. Debra took Whitney out for lunch at The Queen Vic, where they began to bond, and Debra confessed that she was homeless. As a result, Whitney asked Bianca to let her stay with them. Whitney helped her sell some dodgy DVDs. Their bond grew stronger and she surprised Whitney when she said she planned to move to Greece and asked if she would come. Whitney delightfully accepted, but realised that Debra was using her when she left suddenly, giving Whitney a sealed envelope, telling her she'd be back for it and told her not to open it or she would be "sorry". As Debra left, Whitney was devastated. She returned on 17 July with cuts on her face, just after Ricky left, after failing to convince Whitney to go to Brighton with them. Debra said that someone was after her and this turned out to be her son, Ryan Malloy. Whitney and Debra went to an abandoned school and retrieved a bag. Debra wouldn't let Whitney see the contents and when they got home, Whitney's stalker was inside. Ryan and Debra started arguing and when Whitney defended her mum, Ryan told her she is his mother too. Ryan returned the next morning. He and Debra argued again, causing Whitney to run out of the café and throw the knife into the canal. When she returned, Debra planned to leave but when Whitney told her about Tony King and the upcoming trial and said she was going to cook them a family meal, so she agreed to stay. When Ryan and Debra were alone, he told her to leave, insisting she was a bad mother and that Whitney was better off without her. Looking frightened, Debra left. In mid December, Debra texted Ryan to say that she cannot attend Tony's trial to support Whitney and not to contact her again. [edit] Sarah McCrea
Sarah McCrea was a friend and fellow student of Libby Fox and Tamwar Masood. She set up a book club, but was unable to use her home, so used Tamwar's instead. While Sarah, Libby, Tamwar and their classmates took the club seriously, Libby and Tamwar's mothers, Denise and Zainab crashed the meeting and messed around. [edit] Marissa Moore
Marissa Moore is a fictional character from the popular BBC One soap opera EastEnders, played by Finn Atkins.[3] Her first on-screen appearance was on 13 January 2009. Marissa is first seen in Walford working at the newly opened Gilly's Massage Parlour. The parlour is met with opposition from Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) and Dot Branning (June Brown), amongst other residents. Peggy tries to convince Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) not to serve her in his shop, but Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) sticks up for her and strikes up a friendship with her.[4] As Kris Green of Digital Spy reports, "Jay (Jamie Borthwick) tries to take his friendship with Marissa (Finn Atkins) to another level. […] He plans to run away with Marissa. […] When Jay meets with Marissa, however, he's confused by her behaviour. All's not what it seems with the young female as she brushes Jay off and makes a call and says into the mic: 'I did what you said. Now leave him alone.'"[5] Atkins discussed her role in an interview with The Evening Post. When asked, "The ears of local viewers must have pricked up when they heard Marissa?" Atkins replied, "A lot of people have said that! I've had a lot of nice feedback. When I went for the casting I'd prepared a London accent, but they were like, 'You know what, we prefer your Nottingham accent,' and I was like 'Get in!' A lot of people had assumed I would be giving it the Cockney slang and I said, 'No – I'm doing it with my Nottingham accent.' I kind of felt like I was representing the city." Atkins described the character at some length, noting, "My character, Marissa, was in a lot of scenes with Jamie Borthwick, who plays Jay Brown… Marissa was a runaway who had been let down by people. She arrived in London to stay with a friend, but found the friend wasn't there, so she'd been on her own and the hardship had forced her into prostitution. Obviously that wasn't something that EastEnders could delve too much into, but you got the idea that she was going through hard times. She could seem quite hard but she did have a softer side. I don't know if they'll return to the storyline or not… The character, Marissa, was only 16. Because I'm quite small I can play anything from 15 up to my age or even a bit older."[6] Grace Dent writes, "I feel sad for Marissa already. Gilly's brothel is a garish tribute to why this really is still a man's world and Marissa's just the faceless droid who masturbates him. I'm not sure that banning Marissa from the caff so she can't have a bacon sandwich afterwards is really solving anything."[7] [edit] Elaine Speight
Elaine Speight was Jean Slater's care worker, who Jean's daughter Stacey called after her mother became depressed following the departure of her son, Sean. Elaine told Charlie and Mo off for their intolerance of Jean. She returned a few hours later, when Jean admitted herself to a psychiatric unit. [edit] Andy Jones
Andy Jones is the adoptive father of established character Danielle Jones. He was mentioned frequently when Danielle arrived in Albert Square in August 2008 to locate her birth mother and made his first on screen appearance on 16 January 2009 after Danielle's biological mother Ronnie Mitchell phoned him after Danielle confessed to her about her pregnancy. Andy asked Danielle to return to their hometown Telford as her brother, Gareth, was getting married. He also said that they would support her through her pregnancy but she said she wanted to stay in London. After he had left, Danielle told Ronnie that her father had said she should have an abortion and later that evening, booked one at the hospital. Andy was mentioned a month later on February when Danielle went to visit him and Gareth after her bond with Ronnie began falling apart. However, she soon began missing Ronnie and Walford. It was later stated that Andy was upset and angry when Danielle told him about her abortion and how she had searched for her biological mother, Ronnie. Danielle decided to return to Walford because of this. However, two months later, on 2 April 2009; Danielle finally revealed her true identity to Ronnie, who at first rejected her, thinking Danielle was lying because she had been told by her father Archie that her daughter was dead. After finding a locket that she had given to her baby, she realised that Danielle was actually telling the truth and raced off to look for her. However when she did, Danielle was accidentally knocked down by Janine Butcher and Danielle tragically died in Ronnie's arms with Danielle's close friend Stacey Slater, her aunt Roxy and Janine all witnesses to her death. After hearing the tragic news, Andy returned and talked to Stacey about the life Danielle had in Walford. But when he met Ronnie again, he realised that she was the woman who gave Danielle up for adoption and blamed her for killing Danielle, leaving them distraught and traumatised. He returned on 14 and 16 April 2009, for Danielle's funeral. He did not allow Ronnie to attend but made amends by telling her about Danielle's childhood. He gave Ronnie Danielle's childhood teddy bear named Digby. At first she declined, knowing Danielle meant so much to him than her, but later accepted for the sake of Danielle. As Ronnie left, he talked about Danielle's good nature and said 'she must get it from her mother'. [edit] Theo Kelly
Theo Kelly is a fictional character from the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Rolan Bell. He made his first appearance on 26 January 2009. Introduced by Diederick Santer, Theo was scripted as a love interest for the character Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin), who, it is claimed, was won over by his "good looks and impeccable manners".[8] According to a BBC news release, "Theo's good looks and manners make him a hit with the ladies on the Square. He seems like the perfect gent". Discussing his casting, Rolan Bell said, "As a lifelong fan of EastEnders it is amazing to be part of the show - everyone has been so welcoming on set. Working with actors such as Rudolph Walker has been a dream come true and I can't wait to see how my character develops on screen."[9] He added, "I auditioned for EastEnders a few years ago when I 'd just left drama school and, quite luckily, I didn't get the part because it was only a small walk-on role. When the audition for Theo came up, I just went for it and gave it all I could."[10] In an interview with media website Digital Spy, Rolan Bell revealed information about his character's personality: "He's a well-to-do guy [...] He's been raised with good manners and he's definitely a mummy's boy. He's the kind of guy that wants to do right by women, but at the same time, he's a bit of a ladies' man. He's quite a gentleman and definitely old-fashioned." According to Bell, the writers of EastEnders pitched Theo as "a young, charming guy with impeccable manners"; however, he revealed that not much about his character's background was revealed in the beginning, so development has been "an organic process".[10] In February 2009, the character was featured as part of EastEnders' first episode acted by an all-black cast, which received focus in the British media.[11] [edit] StorylinesThe character's backstory was revelead by Rolan Bell: "Theo's grown up in a one-parent family in Brixton [...] he's the eldest of his brothers and sisters - he's actually one of six children [...] The father/son relationship is quite distant - almost non-existent - and I think that's why he has the attitude towards women that he has. Theo's seen the pain his mother's been through and he has quite a compassion for women in that situation."[10] Theo Kelly arrives in Walford in search of Patrick Trueman. He is searching for him on behalf of Tommy Clifford in regard to the 1950s race riots that Patrick was involved with. He introduces Tommy to Patrick, not realising that Tommy is the man who killed Patrick's fiancee during the riots. Theo begins dating Chelsea Fox, who is close to Patrick, but when Tommy's true identity is discovered, Theo falls out with Chelsea, although she eventually forgives him, believing that he was not a part of Tommy's deception. Chelsea believes she is not intelligent enough for Theo, she strays with a footballer named Ellis in June 2009. Theo is willing to forgive her, but Chelsea rejects him due to her insecurities. Chelsea later dumps Theo in favour of Ellis and later leaves Walford with Ellis. However she returns a few weeks later admitting to her family that she's been the victim of domestic abuse. She has had no further contact with Theo and he has not been seen around Albert Square since. [edit] Roger Clarke
Roger Clarke was the husband of Linda Clarke and father of Jane and Christian and has lived in Florida with his wife for many years, rarely seeing his children. He was first mentioned in November 2006 when Linda arrived in Walford for their daughter Jane's wedding to Ian Beale, explaining that Roger's absence was due to ill health. He was then again mentioned by Linda when she turned up on Ian and Jane's doorstep in November 2008, announcing that Roger had left her and had been having an affair with a nurse named Marion for months. After a few months apart, Roger then wrote to Linda in January 2009 asking for a reconciliation. Roger arrived in Walford on 3 February 2009 after being contacted by his son-in-law Ian to take Linda home. Upon his arrival Roger and Linda reminisced over old times and, after he revealed that he and Marion had gone their separate ways, he declared his love for her and asked her to return to Florida with him. After initial doubts, Linda agreed and the couple left Walford on 6 February 2009. [edit] Syd Chambers
Sydney "Syd" Chambers is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Nina Toussaint-White. Syd is a love interest for Bradley Branning. The character left the show on 11 December 2009. In January 2009, it was announced that actress Nina Toussaint-White would join EastEnders playing Syd Chambers, a new love interest for Bradley Branning (Charlie Clements).[12] Speaking of her part, Toussaint-White said: "I have been a fan of EastEnders for as long as I can remember and I am extremely excited to be working on such a great show. Finding out I got the job was exciting, but standing on the Square for the first time was amazing although very surreal." She added: "I'm looking forward to working with Charlie Clements and seeing what Syd is going to get up to."[12] Toussaint-White has subsequently claimed that the relationship between Bradley and Syd is an attempt to portray more interracial relationships in EastEnders. However she also urged the soap to go further in trying to accurately portray the diversity of modern London. Toussaint-White also claimed that her addition in the cast of EastEnders was part of an ongoing process of including more ethnic-minority characters in the show.[13] Later on after her first appearance, it was revealed that Syd also has a deaf son named Noah. The result of Syd's relationship with Bradley is directly linked to the high-profile storyline of Stacey Slater's ongoing battle with bipolar disorder, and her subsequent sectioning.[14] [edit] StorylinesSyd arrives in Walford in February 2009, along with her collie dog, Sugar, to return Gumbo, Bradley Branning's dog, who had gone missing earlier. Upon meeting Bradley, she decides to stay and have a cup of tea and is next seen the following month when Bradley finally plucks up the courage to phone her. Later that evening, she visits his home and they spend time together, but are briefly interrupted by Bradley's estranged wife Stacey Slater. Liking the area, Syd decides to move into the flat above the bookies and begins to date Bradley. She finds herself attracted to him as he is different from the other men she has dated, and when Bradley confesses that he is unemployed, she admires his honesty and kisses him, cementing their relationship. However, Syd disappears for some time, leaving Bradley worried that she is no longer interested. When she finally reappears, she insists that she has been busy with her job as a nurse. Bradley, however, remains unconvinced that Syd has feelings for him and in a bid to prove him wrong, she presents him with a rose and sleeps with him. Bradley is delighted at taking their relationship to the next level, but Syd breaks his heart when she finishes with him. After seeing a man leave her flat, Bradley decides to move to Edinburgh to live with a friend. Upon hearing this, Syd rushes to his house and begs him to reconsider, inviting him to her flat in order to explain her actions. Bradley relents and Syd introduces him to her deaf son Noah, informing him that the man he saw was her babysitter. When Bradley is taken to hospital, Max urges Syd to visit him, but she refuses because she doesn't want to leave Noah. She changes her mind when Noah takes a shine to Bradley and asks about him. In August 2009 she receives a job offer in Canada. She is excited and asks Bradley to come with her and Noah, but Bradley isn't keen to leave Walford as he has family there and his grandfather has just returned from a nursing home. She is sad but understands his circumstances. Noah too is against the idea of moving to Canada as he has settled into Walford and has made some friends. After an argument with Stacey, Bradley tells her that he has changed his mind, and is ready to move to Canada with her whenever she wants. They leave on 9 October 2009 but return on 7 December 2009 to visit his mother Rachel in hospital. However, Bradley tells Syd that he was still in love with Stacey and refuses to go back to Canada with her and Noah. She fails to convince him that Stacey was trying to split them up and that he cannot leave Noah. However he still refuses but he bids farewell to them both. He helps them load their luggage into the car and Syd and Noah leave together without Bradley, leaving them both heartbroken. [edit] Todd Taylor
Todd Taylor was a love interest for Whitney Dean. The pair met at the Laundrette when they were doing their laundry. They were later reacquainted when coincidentally Todd was working for Ricky Butcher as a car valet at Pat Cars and Whitney had accidentally picked up and washed a pair of Todd's boxerbriefs. Todd had a shy appearance and asked her out on a date; but Whitney initially wasn't interested although, after having doubts, she changed her mind. Todd appeared two months later after new boss Darren Miller brought the car lot back from Ricky's manipulative sister Janine Butcher. He met Whitney again when he came to play on his Xbox 360. However things didn't end as expected when Tiffany Dean, Whitney's supposed half sister's pet caterpillar Herbert crawled into his clothes. When Ricky walked into the room, he thought that Todd was stripping for Whitney and kicked him out. Later on in the playground, Todd helped Whitney down from the swing she was on and she stumbled onto him, which led to believe that he was about to kiss her. Todd later turned up at Pat's house where Ricky apologized for the misunderstanding, along with Whitney making up with him. They later went to play on the Xbox again but Todd accidentally stood on Herbert the caterpillar much to Tiffany's dismay. Whitney and Todd decided to just be friends however, Whitney discovered a condom in his wallet, when he forgot it, discovering that he was still thinking of more than just being friends. After trying to apologise to Whitney and telling her his mum made him take a condom for protection, he was threatened by Whitney's older brother Ryan Malloy. He left and has not been seen since, however he will return at the end of the 2009.[15] [edit] Les Finnis

Pearl Rogers was a local homeless woman, who took shelter in fish and chip shop Beale's Plaice; much to the chagrin of owner Ian Beale. This prompted him to forbid his charitable employee Lucas Johnson to serve her. However Lucas ignored him and gave her some chips when he was not supposed to. She had a conversation with Dawn Swann when she confided Pearl about her relationship with Garry Hobbs. During this conversation, Pearl stated that she was a widow when her husband died of cancer. She was last seen when Lucas was caught giving free food from Beale's Plaice to her and homeless friends. This had led to Ian and Lucas having an argument and Lucas decided to quit his job. [edit] Trina Johnson
Trina Johnson, played by Sharon Duncan Brewster, was the wife of already established character Lucas Johnson and mother of his son Jordan. She first appeared on 23 February 2009, unexpectedly to Lucas, Jordan and Lucas's fiancée Denise Wicks. At first, Lucas was shocked to see her and told her that their marriage is over and that he is going to marry Denise. It was revealed that Trina is also a drug addict. After being warned by Patrick Trueman to stay away from them, she shockingly told him that Lucas had spent Christmas with her. She wasn't seen after this and when Patrick confronted Lucas, he said he had applied for a divorce. On 19 June 2009, Trina was spotted by Patrick spying on Lucas and Denise kissing. A week later, Lucas revealed to Denise he dislikes her because she was a bad mother to Jordan. When he was a baby, he was born addicted to heroin — the reason why she abandoned him. The following week, Trina revealed that Lucas had spent Christmas with her, which prompted Denise to throw Lucas out. After being rejected by Lucas, Trina was kicked out of The Queen Victoria public house by barmaid Roxy Mitchell for throwing a drink over Jack Branning. Trina went to Pat Evans' house, where Lucas was staying and came downstairs in her underwear, asking Lucas to come back to bed, witnessed by Denise who had only just forgiven Lucas. Trina played a trick on Denise by telling the police that Denise was abusing Jordan. However, the social worker could find no evidence of abuse. Despite all of her plans to drive them further apart, Trina tells Lucas and Denise that she has agreed to a divorce. However, she also tells them that she is planning to relocate to Walford with Jordan. A few weeks later she returned during an exciting day for Libby Fox. The family were planning to go to celebrate as Libby got a place to study at Oxford University. Trina turned up and Jordan was ecstatic, but Denise told Lucas to get rid of her. Outside, he asked her if she was back on drugs to which she walked off determined to have Lucas back. She slept with Lucas again and the next day arranged to meet Lucas in the allotments, and as she tried to seduce him he pushed her away and her throat was impaled on a rake. Lucas then left the shed as she lay bleeding to death. Trina attempts to phone Denise but dies before the call connects. When Lucas goes in to check on her, he sees she is dead and hears Denise on the phone. He ends the call and assembles evidence around Trina to make it look like she died in an accident whilst taking drugs. Her body was discovered on 14 September by Jordan and Abi Branning, with Lucas watching from a distance away. Trina's death was pronounced as an accident by the police on September 29, 2009. [edit] Tommy Clifford
Tommy Clifford was played by Edward Woodward, and was interested in Patrick Trueman. He made friends with him but secretly wanted something from him. He was a neighbour of researcher Theo Kelly. Theo has already met Chelsea and confirmed that she lived with Patrick. Together they wanted to meet with Patrick and ask him about the Notting Hill Riots. It was revealed that Tommy wasn't an author and he was a racist back then. He sincerely apologised and cried when Patrick realised Tommy was the person who started a fire that killed Patrick's fiancée. He then went on to reveal that the reason he is confessing now is because he is dying from kidney failure and his days are numbered. In mid-April Libby stated that Tommy deserved a chance to explain himself and that Patrick should visit him. He told her to mind her own business but she later went round to his house only to find he had been admitted to hospital. Patrick went with Denise to visit Tommy in hospital on 23 April. He went in and Tommy begged for forgiveness and mentioned Ruth and Patrick stormed out. Denise told Patrick that the nurse said Tommy would most likely not make it through the night. He went back into Tommy and forgave him. He died in hospital with Patrick by his side on 23 April 2009. Edward Woodward died on 16 November 2009. [edit] Noah Chambers

Syd is offered a job in Canada, and Noah responds by running away. Bradley and Syd find him at the arcade, playing car games. Syd, Noah and Bradley leave for Toronto Canada on 9 October 2009. They return to Walford to see Bradley's mother Rachel who is in hospital after being involved in a car crash. She was impressed with caterer Christian Clarke and asked if his wife would be joining them at the party. She later told her friend that she couldn't believe Christian was single. When Christian said he just hadn't found the right man yet, Bushra was disgusted, said "your poor mother", and walked off. She later sees Zainab and her family at mosque and helps Zainab home after she suffers a dizzy spell. [edit] Parveen Abbasi

James packs his bags to leave, but after Christian breaks up with Syed, he kisses James and asks him to stay. He later thanks Syed for bringing him and Christian together. EastEnders executive producer Diederick Santer said on Clerkin's casting: "[He] is a delightful and subtle actor with a big funny bone. He's grabbed this enigmatic and rather odd character and made it his own."[17] Clerkin said of Joel: "[He] is a nice guy who fantasises about a future with an amazingly beautiful woman, so that's something a lot of men may relate too!"[17] [edit] StorylinesJoel's introduction to the show begins when Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) phones him after stealing Ronnie's address book. She invites him to The Queen Victoria public house and is served by Ronnie. Ronnie sees and recognises Joel when he turns around, and drops their drinks in shock. Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) sends both Joel and Janine out of the pub. Joel's car breaks down and while Ronnie offers to fix it for him, they both talk about the memories of their past and he is reacquainted by Archie who fixes his car. Before he leaves, Joel gives his business card to Ronnie. He and Ronnie later meet up and, although Ronnie discovers a picture of his wife and children, they have sex. Archie warns Joel off the next day and gives him money to stay away from Ronnie. Ronnie goes to his office to ask why he has stopped speaking to her and discovers what Archie did. She tells him to meet her in The Queen Victoria, but Stephanie turns up with their daughters instead to warn Ronnie off him. Ronnie visits Joel's house and forces him to choose between her and his wife. Joel chooses Ronnie and stays with her at The Queen Victoria. Their happiness is then ruined by Ronnie's sister, Roxy (Rita Simons), who reveals that their daughter died four months ago, rather than years ago as he believed. Roxy urges Joel to ask Ronnie about Danielle. He comforts Ronnie, telling her he wishes he could have been there for her. Ronnie tells people she and Joel are trying for a baby, though Joel is unaware that she is trying to get pregnant. When she thinks she is pregnant, he shocks her by telling her he had a vasectomy. Ronnie says he lied to her, but he says he could not find the time to tell her. She admits she is only with him to get pregnant and throws him out. He tells Ronnie that she is "dead on the inside" and walks away with Danielle's locket, which Ronnie had thrown out of her bedroom window. [edit] Stephanie Reynolds
Stephanie Reynolds, played by Claire Lubert, is the wife of Joel Reynolds, She first appeared on screen on 10 August 2009 when she picks Joel up in her car outside The Queen Victoria. A week later, she turns up at Joel's office when he is talking to Ronnie. She warns Ronnie off Joel, saying they'll keep the money Ronnie's father Archie paid him to stay away. Ronnie visits Joel's house and forces him to choose between her and his wife. Joel chooses Ronnie and leaves that night. [edit] Hannah Reynolds

On 11 September 2009, she is seen when she goes for a picnic with her father in the park and on her father's birthday on 29 September when it is revealed that it is Hannah's 10th birthday too. Hannah dislikes Ronnie, saying she stole her father from her, and Ronnie tells Hannah about Danielle, becoming increasingly upset as she does so, which scares Hannah. [edit] Orlenda
Orlenda, played by Mary Tamm, is a Russian woman who Charlie Slater met at the airport in Madeira after splitting up with Brenda Boyle. She came back to Walford with Charlie but was accused by Mo Harris of being an illegal immigrant. She photographed Orlenda with another man and showed it to Charlie, who confronted her. She admitted that she was a scammer but felt that Charlie was too nice for her to go through with it. She returned the money Charlie had given her and left Walford along with the man she had been seen with. After her departure, Tamm told entertainment website Digital Spy: "I absolutely loved [being in EastEnders]. It's the Russian background [that got me the role]. My mother, despite spending most of her life in Estonia, was actually Russian. The director I worked with on EastEnders directed me on Brookside and he'd remembered this Russian background so that's why he cast me – because they love to have authenticity where possible. It was great to do and they were all lovely – very friendly and welcoming. It was a very happy experience and I absolutely loved it. Hopefully they'll ask me back, which would be nice."[18] [edit] George Trott
George Michael Trott is the son of Heather Trott and Darren Miller, named after his mother's favourite singer, George Michael. Heather discovered she was pregnant in May 2009, which came as a shock to her as she was 41 years old. She decided to keep the identity of the father a close secret, however, the possible fathers were Darren, Phil Mitchell, Minty Peterson and Billy Mitchell.[19] Cheryl Fergison, who plays Heather, revealed to entertainment website Digital Spy how the crew attempted to make Heather's waters breaking appear realistic: "We had several ideas about balloons and gloves filled with water. In the end, I had this balloon between my legs and burst it with my nutcracker thighs. You just see this huge gush! I have to admit, I don't remember a gush myself, but in true EastEnders style, we have a water display! It's all a bit of a shocker and everyone starts panicking."[20] Heather then decides to tell the father about the baby. Fergison commented, "This is where I think the writing's been really clever. When you watch it, you'll see what I mean. They have the suspects — Minty, Phil, Darren and Billy — and all their phones ring. Heather leaves a voicemail on the daddy's phone to let them know that they've become a dad. There are several cuts to all the various suspects and you see each of them flying to the hospital..."[20] The father was revealed to be Darren, played by Charlie G. Hawkins. Before the father was revealed on screen, Hawkins gave an interview in which he talked about what would happen if Darren was the father: "It would change everything. Darren would worry that [his girlfriend] Libby wouldn't marry him — and what about Libby's parents Denise and Owen? I think he'd be alright as a dad, but he wouldn't want the burden. It'd rock the boat if it was Darren."[21] Darren was revealed to be the father of the baby George Trott in the episode broadcast on 23 October 2009. Fergison told entertainment website Digital Spy, "Darren will be a good dad but he'll be very businesslike about it. He'll say that he doesn't really want to have anything to do with George but will pay his way for him. You'll see him change, though, and you'll start to see him getting attached. [Heather's friend] Shirley doesn't want Darren to go anywhere near George, though! It'll be interesting to see how they write it from here for Darren, especially with the Libby angle."[22] [edit] Kim Fox
Kim Fox, played by Tameka Empson, is the half-sister of Denise Wicks (Diane Parish), who has been mentioned several times since Denise's arrival in May 2006. Kim and her boyfriend Dexter (Robbie Gee), arrive for Denise's wedding to Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet).[23]. She is shown to be lively in comparison to the calm and controlled Denise, wearing colourful and garish clothes and drinking heavily in the early afternoon, and is horrified when her niece Libby (Belinda Owusu) informs her that the hen night is low key and will consist of a few friends and a magician. Kim cancels the magician and books drag queen Charity Kase instead, which initially horrifies both Denise and Libby but eventually all the women have a great time, with Denise showing her more lively side in the end. On the morning of the wedding Kim and Dexter get drunk, having brought hip flasks with them and then later finding the rum that Libby had hidden, and end up having an argument when Dexter spills his drink over her new outfit. After Kim bursts into tears when Dexter calls her "easy", Denise sobers her up with black coffee and before the ceremony, she makes up with Dexter. However the next day, whilst having lunch with the newlyweds before they go off on honeymoon, Kim is informed by Denise that Dexter made a pass at Chelsea. Kim is devastated and argues with Dexter, but in the end takes him back, telling Denise that she can't live without him. Kim and Dexter, along with Patrick, Chelsea, Libby and Jordan, then waves off Lucas and Denise before returning home. [edit] Dexter
Dexter, played by Robbie Gee, was the boyfriend of Kim Fox (Tameka Empson). They appeared together for Kim's sister Denise's (Diane Parish) wedding to Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet).[23] Since his arrival with Kim, Dexter had instantly set his eyes on Kim's niece Chelsea. At the wedding reception Dexter flirts with her but she turns him down and threatens to tell Kim about his advances. At this point he instantly feels threatened and backs off. Following the reception, Dexter and Kim stayed overnight to see Denise and Lucas going off to their honeymoon the next day. Chelsea tells Denise about Dexter's behaviour towards her and she tells Kim about this. Even though Kim already knows the way Dexter behaves to other women she still loves him. After a family dinner and seeing Denise and Lucas off, Dexter and Kim return home. [edit] Qadim Shah
Qadim Shah, played by Ramon Tikaram, is the father of Amira Shah (Preeya Kalidas), and is currently in prison for dodgy business dealings. He will appear when Amira visits him in prison, and then when he is released in time for her wedding to Syed Masood (Marc Elliott).[24] On being cast in the show, Tikaram said: "It's great to be joining a programme that represents a Muslim family in a positive light. It's also fantastic to be working with old friends including Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed) and Preeya Kalidas."[24] Qadim is described as an "intelligent and dynamic man" who "oozes charm and sex appeal", and it is said that the death of his wife left him a "bitter, controlling tyrant".[25] [edit] Others
