Gene D. Block (born 1948) is an American biologist, academic, and chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles. His selection was announced on 21 December 2006, succeeding interim office holder, Norman Abrams on 1 August 2007.

Block was provost and Professor of Biology at the University of Virginia. He was succeeded by Arthur Garson, Jr..

Block's research investigates the cellular basis of circadian rhythms. He received the A.B. from Stanford University in 1970, followed by the M.S. and Ph.D. in 1972 and 1975, respectively, from the University of Oregon; all of these degrees were in psychology. He returned to Stanford for postdoctoral work in 1975 until 1978 when he began his professorial career at the University of Virginia. Block has also completed coursework at Foothill College, UC-Berkeley, and George Washington University.
