The GP3 Series, or GP3 for short, is a single seater motor racing series due to be launched in 2010 as a feeder series for the GP2 Series, introduced by GP2 organiser Bruno Michel.[1] It was initially thought that the GP3 series would merge with the International Formula Master (IFM) series.[1] However, GP3 will actually use an all-new Dallara chassis combined with a Renault engine.[2][3]

The budget is expected to be around €600,000 per year.[4]

Contents

[edit] GP3 Series cars

The GP3 Series car will be a standardised car used by all of the competing teams.

Chassis
The car will be designed and built by Dallara, who currently produces the GP2 chassis.[2][3]
Engine
GP3 will use a 280HP engine developed by Renault.[2][3]
Gearbox
GP3 will use a 6 speed longitudinal sequential Hewland gearbox.[3]
Tyres
Pirelli will supply tyres for GP3, rather than Bridgestone, the suppliers for GP2.[2][3]
Other parts
GP2 supplier Brembo will manufacture the brakes.[3]

[edit] Race weekend

The GP3 Series will take place during GP2 race weekends, with the series' first race due to be at the Spanish Grand Prix of the 2010 Formula One season.[3]
