Friedrich Goll (March 1, 1829 - November 12, 1903) was a Swiss neuroanatomist who was a native of Zofingen, located in the canton of Aargau. In 1851 he received his medical doctorate from the University of Zurich, and furthered his education in Paris, where he studied under Claude Bernard (1813-1878). Afterwards he returned to Zurich, where he worked for several years as a general practitioner of medicine. In 1863 he was in charge of the outpatient clinic at the University of Zurich, and subsequently became director of the department of pharmacology. In 1885 he attained the title of associate professor at the University. Goll is remembered for his description of the fasciculus gracilis, which is bundle of axon fibers in the spinal cord. This bundle of fibers is also known as the "tract of Goll" in honor of his discovery. [edit] Selected writings
