Friedhelm Funkel (born 10 December, 1953 in Neuss) is a German football coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Bundesliga club Hertha BSC
[edit] Coaching careerHe has coached Eintracht Frankfurt since 2004 and was released from his contract on 1 July 2009.[1][2]. He led the club into the Bundesliga in his first season in charge[3]. One year later he and the team avoided relegation and surprisingly reached the German Cup final, which eventually sent them to the UEFA Cup. Tied with Erich Ribbeck, Funkel holds the record for the longest tenure at Eintracht, with five full seasons.
