Francis Burt (January 13, 1807 – October 18, 1854) was a Nebraska democratic politician best known for being the first governor of the newly created Nebraska Territory. He was born in Pendleton, South Carolina in 1807. He was a member of the South Carolina state legislature from 1832 to 1844. He was the South Carolina state treasurer in 1844 and a delegate to the state's constitutional convention in 1852. He moved to the newly created Nebraska territory and became the governor on October 16, 1854. Two days later he died in Bellevue, Nebraska. Burt County, Nebraska is named in his honor. On April 26, 1831 he married Georgianna Ann Hall (May 26, 1807 – February 26, 1870), daughter to Dr George Hall of Charleston, South Carolina. The couple had eight recorded children.
