The title Footballer of the Year of Israel has been bestowed annually since 1965 by the Israeli newspaper Maariv at the end of each season. In the years 1966 and 1991 two players have been honuored. Mordechai Spiegler, who is considered the foremost player in Isreali football history, has between 1966 and 1971, been given the accolade a record four times. With the Croat Đovani Roso, also known as Giovanni Rosso, in 1999 and 2002, and the Brazilian Gustavo Boccoli in 2007 two foreign players have received the honour. [edit] Winners
