Filthcast (commonly referred to as the Barcode Filthcast) is an ongoing series of Barcode Recordings podcasts that feature international darkstep and hardstep drum & bass artists.

The name comes from a play on the word 'filth', which is used to describe the heavy, obscenely hardcore style of music broadcast, and the term for iTunes audio syndication platform, the 'podcast'. The Filthcast was launched by Barcode label owner, Cyall Carlisle Victor, and Christopher Don (Donny) on 7 January 2008[1] as a result of growing support for the label among clubbers, which had developed through nights such as Therapy Sessions London and Autopsy in Brighton.

The show is regularly listened to by an audience made up predominantly of 17-29 year olds[2] who want to hear top artists from the scene playing exclusive DJ mixes. Current Value, Counterstrike, Donny, Lucio De Rimanez, Silent Killer and Eye-D have all contributed sets in the past.

Most commercial drum and bass podcasts concentrate on one particular subgenre of the music, such as jump up or neurofunk, however the Filthcast has been credited with introducing a mixture of current darkstep, hardcore, techno drum & bass, skullstep and other alternative drum & bass styles.

Artists as diverse as Audio, Current Value, SPL, Counterstrike, Donny, Eye-D, Evol Intent, BTK, Lucio De Rimanez, Limewax, Gein, Raiden, Technical Itch and Vicious Circle are often showcased - their main similarity being that they all appeal to a more leftfield audience.

Early Filthcasts were initially criticised on internet music forums and social media websites for having too much voice-over "waffle" from presenters[3], so an experimental special edition Filthcast 005 by Lucio De Rimanez was broadcast with no voice overs on 2 December 2008[4]. Following an increase in downloads[5] and a straw poll of listeners that found two thirds preferred the new format it is now the standard style for the show.
