The Filmfare Best Actor Award is given by Filmfare as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi (Bollywood) films, to recognise a male actor who has delivered an outstanding performance in a leading role. The award was first given in 1954.

13 actors account for 45 of the 54 awards recognized thus far. Dilip Kumar, with 8 wins, has more Best Actor awards than any other actor, closely followed by Shahrukh Khan who has won the award 7 times. Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan have four wins each, and Rajesh Khanna and Naseeruddin Shah have three wins each. Dilip Kumar also holds the record for most consecutive wins, having won the award for three years in a row from 1956 to 1958. Five other actors have won the award in consecutive years; in chronological order, they are Rajesh Khanna (1972-72), Sanjeev Kumar (1976-77), Amitabh Bachchan (1978-79), Naseeruddin Shah (1981-82) and Shahrukh Khan (1998-99). Actors who have won both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards include Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff and Nana Patekar. Two actors were nominated for both these awards for the same performance: Ashok Kumar (for Aashirwad in 1970) and Kamal Haasan (for Saagar in 1986). Amitabh Bachchan holds the record for most Best Actor nominations, with 26, followed by Dilip Kumar and Shahrukh Khan, who have 19 and 18 nominations respectively. Bachchan and Khan also hold the record for the highest number of Best Actor nominations in a single year, having been nominated thrice in 1979 and 2005 respectively.
