Fenway Sports Group ("FSG") is a company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts established by New England Sports Ventures in 2004.
The company styles itself as a "new kind of sports marketing agency," created by NESV to expand its footprint beyond its most famous holdings, the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball and Fenway Park. With Mike Dee as its president, FSG entered into an exclusive sponsorship sales agreement with Boston College's major intercollegiate sports in 2004 and as of 2009 counted BC, Major League Baseball, the Red Sox, the Deutsche Bank PGA golf championship, and Professional Bull Riders among its client base. [6]
In addition, FSG purchased the Salem Avalanche, a minor league baseball franchise in the High Class A Carolina League, in December 2007. On September 19, 2008, FSG announced that the Salem franchise, eventually renamed the Salem Red Sox, would replace the Lancaster JetHawks as Boston's High A affiliate in 2009.
In October 2009, Sam Kennedy was promoted to succeed Dee (who became chief executive officer of the Miami Dolphins in May 2009) as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Red Sox, and president of Fenway Sports Group. [7] FSG is a wholly owned subsidiary of New England Sports Ventures ("NESV"). In addition to Fenway Sports Group NESV owns the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park, 80 percent of the New England Sports Network, and 50 percent of NASCAR team Roush Fenway Racing (from Roush Racing on February 14, 2007).[8] In October 2009, FSG announced a new partnership with Fulham F.C. of the Engish Premiership, with shirt sponsership to start in 2011.[9]
