FC Vaslui is a professional football club from Vaslui, Romania. The club plays in Liga I, and had some good performances in the recent history of Romania. The club traditionally plays in green-yellow shirts.
[edit] HistoryOn 20 July, 2002, Victoria Galaţi moved to Vaslui, after an alliance between Marius Stan and former referee Adrian Porumboiu. The team also was renamed as Fotbal Club Municipal Vaslui (FCM Vaslui), later only Fotbal Club Vaslui (FC Vaslui). The team manager was named Ioan Sdrobiş, who also brought a few players he trained in the past, such as: Sorin Frunză and Valentin Badea. Adrian Porumboiu assured the club an impressive budget for Divizia C. The official colors were chosen yellow-green, and their first objective, was promotion in Divizia B. The objective was accomplished, so the next objective for the team, was promotion to Divizia A. In the 2003/2004 season, the team failed to promote in Liga I, finishing only the 2nd in the table, behind the new fierce rival Poli Iaşi. With major changes in the team, at the end of the season 2004/2005, FC Vaslui broke a record, being the first club in Romanian history who plays in Divizia A, after only 3 years, since its foundation. In the summer of 2005, Adrian Porumboiu, wanted FC Vaslui to impress in its first season in Divizia A, so he signed a couple of players, with notable performances in Divizia A, such as: Claudiu Răducanu, Nana Falemi, Sabin Ilie or Ionuţ Badea. The team coach was named Basarab Panduru. Because in the first 5 matches, the team succeeded only a draw with Gloria Bistriţa, Panduru resigned, and the new team coach was named Mircea Rednic, who succeeded in the previous season, the club's promotion in Divizia A. The team still didn't performed well, but in the last match, of the first half of the season, FC Vaslui was very close to their first win in Divizia A, against Steaua, on Ghencea. In the winter break, FC Vaslui made a lot of changes in the team, signing Marius Croitoru and Cătălin Cursaru from FCM Bacău, Sebastian Sfârlea from CS Oradea, Sebastian Huţan from FC Sheriff Tiraspol, Adrian Mihalcea and Milorad Bukvić for free. In the second part of the season, the team assured the 14th place. The most remarkable performance was a win against Dinamo with 2-1, on Stefan cel Mare. In the last match of the season, Steaua came to Vaslui. Steaua needed a victory, to win the Championship. Unsurprisingly, Steaua won with 4-0, but the match was intense contested by Rapid officials, and also by Adrian Porumboiu. In the next day, Porumboiu decided to stop sponsoring FC Vaslui, most of the players being released, (Badea and Panait going to Steaua, for 1.2 million $). Mircea Rednic signed with Dinamo (another controversy rising because of this, Steaua had to win the championship, for Dinamo to play in UEFA Cup). In the new season, only 8 players from the previous season stayed at the club: Hăisan, Buhuş, P. Jovanović, Cornea, Croitoru, Buhăescu, S. Frunză and Bukvić. The new coach, was named Gheorghe Mulţescu, and the new team captain was chosen Marius Croitoru. Because of another poor start, Mulţescu resigned, and the new coach was named Viorel Hizo. With the new coach, FC Vaslui succeeded one of their best season from its history, finishing on the 8th position, being considered that season's revelation. But because of the club's poor infrastructure, Viorel Hizo decided to leave FC Vaslui. In the summer of 2007, Dorinel Munteanu was named the new coach. In the first match, FC Vaslui finished 2-2 with UTA Arad, and it seemed that the history with the poor starts is going to repeat. But in the second match, FC Vaslui won against Dinamo, with 2-0. The team's objective that year was to achieve a European Cup, and it seemed that the objective was almost accomplished, but after a 3-0 win against Politehnica Timişoara, the decline began. After a 1-2 loss against Universitatea Craiova, Steaua came to Vaslui. After a 0-1 loss, Dorinel Munteanu was sacked, because he was accused by Porumboiu, that he sold the game to Steaua. Also Sabou, Bălace and the team captain S. Frunză were sent to the second team. Emil Săndoi was named the new coach, but until the final season, the team won only one match, and it seemed that the season objective was missed. But in the final round, FC Vaslui needed only a draw against Rapid, to qualify for UEFA Intertoto Cup. Even the team lost the game, with 4-2, Oţelul Galaţi also failed to win against Poli Iaşi, even Poli's fans wanted their team to lose against Oţelul. So, the team qualified for a European Cup, this being the biggest performance for FC Vaslui in its entire history. [edit] Honours[edit] Domestic

[edit] Stadium Main article: Stadionul Municipal (Vaslui) Municipal Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Vaslui, Romania. It was opened in 1972, and it is owned by The Vaslui municipality. In 2002, when Victoria Galaţi (former name) moved in Vaslui, they reached an agreement with the Vaslui municipality, and since then, they hosts their home games, on this ground. The stadium has 11,220 seats, and it is covered by natural grass. Municipal also has official stand, covered cabins for the guests and the press, installation of drainage and installation of automatic irrigation turf, internet access for the media, and a new club headquarters built. The floodlighting system, with a density of 1400 lux, has been inaugurated in 2008, this stadium being the 11th in Romania, with a floodlighting system. It is also 2 stars rated by UEFA. [edit] CaptainsThe first known captain for FC Vaslui was Sorin Frunză. He signed for FC Vaslui, in 2002, and he was named captain in 2003, after a great first season at the team. In the second half of the 2005/2006 season, he was injured, so the captain was Ionuţ Badea. In 2006/2007 season, he had a conflict with Gheorghe Mulţescu, so he lost the captaincy. In the second half of that season, he was loaned at FC Botoşani. After he returned, he was named vice-captain for the 2007/2008 season, but because Panait was relegated on the bench, he was again the captain of the team. He transfered at Unirea Urziceni, after a conflict with Adrian Porumboiu, and the team captain was Bogdan Buhuş. However, he lost the captaincy because of a conflict with Hizo, and after Moldovan signed with Vaslui, he named Gabriel Cânu the new captain. At the end of the season, because Cânu was relegated on the bench, Buhuş was named the new captain of the team.
[edit] Statistics and recordsMain article: List of FC Vaslui statistics and records FC Vaslui's first competitive game was an 3–1 victory in the Divizia C against Viitorul Hârlău. Bogdan Buhuş holds FC Vaslui's overall appearance record—he played 139 matches over the course of 4 seasons from 2005 until present, and he also holds the record for League appearances with 121. FC Vaslui's all-time leading scorer is Valentin Badea, who scored 43 goals while at the club from 2002 to 2006. Frunză holds the record for the most goals in a season with 18 in 2002–03. The most goals scored by a player in a single match is four; Valentin Badea achieving this feat. Cătălin Andruş holds the club record for the fastest hat trick: he scored three goals in five minutes against CFR Paşcani in the 2002–03 season. Lucian Burdujan, Mike Temwanjera and Wesley Lopes are FC Vaslui's all-time leading goalscorer in European competition with 3 goals each one. FC Vaslui's biggest victory is 9–0 against Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ II in 2003. FC Vaslui's heaviest defeat, 2–5, came against UTA Arad in 2006. FC Vaslui's 3–1 win against FK Liepājas Metalurgs in the UEFA Cup was the largest victory in Europe competition for the club. [edit] Current squad

Marius Lăcătuş has signed a 2-year contract with FC Vaslui, on 28 September 2009, after the departure of Cristian Dulca. His objectives are still the same: a place in the first fives in the championship, or the Romanian Cup. [edit] Player of the year (2002–2009)
