The Eurotas or Evrotas (Greek: Ευρώτας) is the main river of Laconia prefecture (Peloponnese, southern Greece). The river's big karstsprings are just northwest of Laconia's border with Arcadia prefecture (one at Skortsinos). The river is fed by underwater karstsprings at Pardali / Pellana and by wild tributaries of the two mountainchains Taygetos and Parnon, which flank wide basins at the west and east. The waters of the 82 km long river well irrigate cultivated grounds, before a small rest reaches the Laconic Gulf. The mountains precipitation has ever since been favorable for a flourishing settlement - one of the historic fundaments of mighty ancient Sparta. The river for them also was an alternative transportation route to their port at Gytheio.

Historically the Evrotas in its geological topography often flooded the plains also ruining properties as in 1999. In November 24, 2005, a low-pressure system again caused heavy floods, did harm to buildings and properties and stranded automobiles in the streets. Crops including the valley's famous orange and olive groves were damaged, heavely so in the town of Elos; the floods affected many villages along the valley as well as the town Gytheio. 170 km² of land was ruined.
