[edit] Movie career

Hashmi made his debut with Footpaath. The film was critical and commercial failure, but the music was appreciated. In 2004 He had two releases. The first was Murder which catapulted him to stardom and the other was Tumsa Nahin Dekha which was a failure. 2006 was a disappointing year as most of films had flopped except Gangster opposite Kangana Ranaut. Emraan's first release of 2007 Good Boy Bad Boy was a failure as well as The Train: Some Lines Should Never Be Crossed. Awarapan was a critically acclaimed film and was moderately successful. His only release in 2008 was Jannat which was critically and commercially successful. Also his only release in 2009 Raaz - The Mystery Continues opposite Kangana Ranaut was the biggest hit ever for Emraan Hashmi. Emraan Hashmi's upcoming films in 2009 are Tum Mile, Raftaar 24 x 7, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.

Apart from the music made that his career sparkle, it is also his kissing scenes. Though uncommon, that is the reason other films have included scenes with kisses. Nicknamed the 'serial kisser' of Bollywood, he has expressed his desire to discontinue kissing and to be known as a mature actor. Throughout his film career, he has kissed his heroines except in Footpath, Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets, Kalyug, Awarapan, The Killer, Dil Diya Hai, Good Boy Bad Boy,Raaz - The Mystery Continues.

[edit] Controversies

In July 2009, Hashmi claimed that a housing society in Mumbai's upmarket Pali Hill locality refused to grant him permission to buy an apartment because he was a Muslim. The housing society rejected the allegations and in turn accused Hashmi and his family of intimidatory behavior.[2] Hashmi's allegations were condemned by other Muslim actors in Bollywood, especially Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan[3] while the Indian-Islamic Cultural Center accused Hashmi of spurring communal tensions in India.[4]

On 10 August 2009, Hashmi backtracked from his accusation and said that the housing society has not discriminated against him and termed the incident as a "miscommunication".[5]
