The Electric Boogaloo was a street dance group that focused on the Urban Dance forms of Popping, Boogaloo, Robot and Locking.

[edit] History

The original name was the Electronic Boogaloo Lockers that was founded in 1977 by Tick'n Will Green, Darnell "Twist-o-Flex Don" McDowell and Boogaloo Sam in Fresno, California. In 1978, Sam left the original group and moved to Long Beach where he started the Long Beach Electronic Boogaloo Lockers, with Creep'n Sid, Pop'in Pete, Scarecrow Scally, Robot Dane, Puppet Boozer along with original members Will Green and Darnell McDowell. In 1978 the name was changed by Jeff Kutash when the group was hired to be apart of the Dance'n Machine. The group first performed on TV in November 1978 on the TV show called Hot City. The four dancers were Pop'in Pete, Scarecrow Scally, Robot Dane and Creep'n Sid. Boogaloo Sam did not perform with the group on TV until 1979. This appearance would be the first time the back slide (performed by Creep'n Sid) would be seen on TV. This Hot City performance would mark the third time Funk Boogaloo would have been seen on national TV and the first time Popping would be seen on TV. [1]

While the facts aren't documented it is believed that Boogaloo Sam was the creator of popping and boogaloo style. He originated this style after dances like the jerk and the robot, dances influenced by others during that era.
