El Dorado is a small town on eastern Venezuela, it is the second largest town in the municipality of Sifontes. The capital of the municipality is Tumeremo. El Dorado was founded in the XIX century.

It is in a gold-mining area on the road to Brazil. The town is famous for its prison, which is mentioned in the book Papillon.
