Eibhlin Byrne is a Fianna Fáil politician and a former Lord Mayor of Dublin. Byrne was a member of the City Council's Housing Strategic Policy Group, the Dublin Regional Authority, and the Dublin Bay Task Force.

Byrne has held a number of senior positions including (current) Senior Manager of the Daughters of Charity Child and Family Service, Head of Communication and Advocacy at Depaul Trust (Homeless Service) (2003–2006), Director of International Student Exchange Programmes, Chair of the National Council on Ageing and Older People and was a member of the Dublin Bay Taskforce.[1]

She has also worked as a volunteer with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and is a board member.[2] Byrne has also been a teacher and ran language programmes between Irish students and young people in France, Germany, Spain and Italy. She has been a member of the Dublin City Council for the Clontarf area since 2003 when she was co-opted to replace Sandra Geraghty.[3][4]

In a personal capacity Byrne was a Board member of Console, an organisation under the patronage of President Mary McAleese. This was set up by the families of those bereaved through suicide to help the family and friends of suicide victims. She is also Chairman of the visiting vommittee for Dochas womens prison.

On the 15 April 2009, Byrne was nominated as a Fianna Fáil candidate (along with Eoin Ryan) for the Dublin constituency at the 2009 European Parliament election which was held on 5 June 2009.[5] Byrne was not successful at the election.
