The Egyptian Super Cup is an Egyptian association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of the Egyptian Premier League and the winners of the Egyptian Cup. If a team wins The Double (both the Premier League and the Cup), then the Double winner plays the Premier League runner-up. The match is contested one week before starting the football season, and has been played since 2000/2001.
[edit] Winners &, Runners up[edit] By year
NOTE 2005/06 * : This match was supposed to be against Zamalek. Ahly had won the League title as well as the Egyptian cup (following a 3-0 win against rivals Zamalek in the final). The Football Association (FA) rules dictate that in the event that the same team wins both the Egyptian League and the Egyptian Cup, the Super Cup is held between the double winners and the Egyptian Cup runners-up. However, due to a combination of crowd trouble from Zamalek fans, as well as a confrontation initiated by the Zamalek President (Mortada Mansour) with Ahly Board members and Zamalek players refusing to come out and receiving their medals, the FA levied fines and bans which included the elimination of Zamalek as an opponent for Ahly in the Super Cup. Zamalek was replaced with is ENPPI, runner up in the Egyptian League. [edit] External links[edit] See also
