Eduardo Maruri Miranda (b. September 6, 1966, Guayaquil, Ecuador) is an entrepreneur[1] and politician. Eduardo Maruri earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1986 and a Certificate in Communications degree from Harvard University in 1989. In 1992 he and his father Jimmy Maruri, former President of McCann Erickson[2] Ecuador, founded Maruri Publicidad, an advertising agency in Ecuador, affiliated with the WPP Group. Maruri also founded and is president of DM3, a sports marketing company specializing in planning and marketing sports events such as the Guayaquil Marathon. In May 2004, aged 37, he won the elections of President of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce ([2]) with 40% of the votes. In 2006 he was elected President of the Ecuadorian Federation of Chambers of Commerce until February 2007. He is responsible for the visits of the following personalities to Ecuador: President Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, José María Aznar, Vice President Al Gore, Anna Kournikova, Rigoberta Menchú, among others.[3] He is the president of UNO, A New Option, a private non-profit organization and political party.[4] On September 30, 2007 Maruri was elected Assembly Member[5] for the Guayas Province for the Ecuadorian Constituent Assembly.[6] Eduardo Maruri has been recognized as one of the most successful young professionals in Ecuador. Leaders magazine included him among the six most respected non-Ecuadorian businesspeople.[7] Latin Finance magazine cited him as one of the 25 people, and the only Ecuadorian on the list, in Latin America ready to assume important positions of great influence over the next ten years.
