Edoardo Amaldi (5 September 1908 – 5 December 1989) was an Italian physicist. He was born in Carpaneto Piacentino and son of a University of Padua mathematics professor. Amaldi had worked closely with Enrico Fermi until 1938, when Fermi left for USA. In 1939, Amaldi was drafted into the Italian Army. After his discharge from Italian Army, He returned to physicist in 1941. He was the anti-Fascist. Also, He detested Benito Mussolini. He was the co-founder of CERN, ESA, and the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics. He was married and had a children. He died in Rome. [edit] External links
