Edmonton Riverview is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. Edmonton Riverview was created prior to the 1997 election and was includes re-distributed areas of the Edmonton-Glenora, Edmonton-Strathcona, and Edmonton-Whitemud ridings. The riding boundaries follow the North Saskatchewan River and Stony Plain Road along the northern border, 109th, 111th and 112th Streets to the east, Whitemud Drive to the south, and Blackmud Creek and 158th, 159th and 163rd Streets to the west. Sloan defeated Progressive Conservative Gwen Harris by over 900 votes. Sloan declined to seek re-election in 2001. The 2001 election saw Liberal candidate and best-selling author Kevin Taft run against Progressive Conservative candidate and former Edmonton City Councillor Wendy Kinsella. Though many pundits believed this would be a close race, Taft was elected taking 49% of the popular vote. In the 2004 election, Taft, then the Leader of the Alberta Liberals faced Progressive Conservative Fred Horne and NDP candidate Donna Martyn. On election night, Taft was easily re-elected taking 65% of the popular vote.

On November 19, 2004 a Student Vote was conducted at participating Alberta schools to parallel the 2004 Alberta general election results. The vote was designed to educate students and simulate the electoral process for persons who have not yet reached the legal majority. The vote was conducted in 80 of the 83 provincial electoral districts with students voting for actual election candidates. Schools with a large student body that reside in another electoral district had the option to vote for candidates outside of the electoral district then where they were physically located.
